Dr. Kalam said, “Dreams are not what you see when you are asleep. Dreams are those that don’t let you sleep.”
Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Center is now actively engaged in igniting the minds of the youth of India in the common thread of national development, positive practices, cause-based awareness, good career knowledge and critical thinking/innovation.
Taking the power of youth into consideration, Kalam Centre initiated a nation-wide campaign, Dreamathon. Through art and creative writing, volunteers of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Centre reach out to schools and colleges across various cities and encourage youth to express their dreams according to Dr. Kalam’s vision of a super power India. They also conduct workshops and activities to mentor the underprivileged children to work hard towards achieving their dreams.
A special feature of this campaign is the Missile of Dreams, a customized van with the décor of a missile dedicated to Dr. Kalam, is traveling all over India – covering 15 districts across 8 states and taking entries from 1 million youth on what is the India of their dreams. Some of the best entries that emerge from these activities will be compiled in a publication, which will be displayed in Kalam Libraries set up across India.
Since its launch in February 2017, Kalam Centre has conducted activities in nearly 100 schools in Delhi and also hosted an interactive session in the Rapid Metro – Sikanderpur and Namma Metro in Bengaluru, called ‘Sapno ka Dibba’ with over 50 under-privileged children from various NGOs.
After Delhi, the Missile of Dreams has also been inaugurated in Bhopal, Mumbai and Lucknow.
